Bryce Edwin Carroll
June 19, 1949 - September 7, 2017
Bryce was born and raised in California. He graduated from University of the Pacific in 1971 with a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering. A year later he completed a M. S. Degree in Civil Engineering-Engineering Economic Planning, from Stanford University.
His career in civil engineering was launched in 1972 when he was hired by Ruth and Going, Inc., Architects and Engineers, San Jose. He worked as a project manager for various residential and commercial developments. A brief stint with Saratoga Development from 1991 to 1992 allowed him to specialize in church design and construction. In 1993 he founded Carroll Engineering, Inc.
Over the years, he hired, taught and mentored Rob, Philip and Matt. When he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2014, he naturally turned to them for help running the Company. In 2015, he sold Carroll Engineering to them, so he could focus on his family and his health.
Bryce used his natural gifts to help and serve others. This included leadership positions for various engineering associations, including Engineers Club of San Jose and Consulting Engineers and Land Surveyors of California. He was a member of the Board of Elders for South Hills Church from 1988 to 2009, and served on building committees from 1985 to 1990. He was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ.
Golf was Bryce's favorite sport, and he eagerly represented Carroll Engineering in many charitable fundraisers. He also enjoyed woodworking, hiking, canoeing, and airplanes. For a while he had a private pilot's license and flew short excursions around California.
Bryce loved his wife Laura, their three children, David, Meredith and Megan, their spouses Jenell Nunan, Jeff Purganan, Manuel Allende and four grandchildren, Byron and Nolan Carroll, and Noah and Erin Purganan. His family was the source of his greatest joy and he took pride in providing for them.
Bryce passed away peacefully on September 7th, 2017. He and his family will always be an important part of Carroll Engineering. When you visit our office, you will see his picture on the wall, with the company credo underneath it. We will always miss Bryce, and proudly continue his legacy by providing the level of service that he founded the Company on.
