Kelly Markwood

CAD Designer
Before joining Carroll Engineering as a CAD Designer, I spent 34 years in the Civil field with the County Department of Roads. I started out on the survey crew, then an Engineering Aide, and then Head of the Engineering Design Department. I drew road and bridge construction plans by hand on mylar before technology advanced and we switched over to computer drafting! A few highlights of my career included customizing and managing our CAD system, user training, and I was on a team that created a GIS inventory and mapping of the road Right-of-Way for the entire County.

At Carroll Engineering I enjoy assisting the engineers with creating construction plans and details. The many projects we work on throughout the year keeps it fresh and interesting.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time on Lake St. Clair with my husband and two daughters. Aquatics is a big part of my family’s life, as my daughters are competitive swimmers and my husband and I are certified Swim and Dive Officials. I also love to travel to explore new places and meet new people!

Carroll Nguyen

Assistant Engineer
BS Civil Engineering, San Jose State University

I officially joined Carroll Engineering in 2019. What appeals to me the most about working here is the opportunity to wear “multiple hats” and learn new things. Every project is similar enough that basic concepts apply, but different enough that concepts need to be applied specifically. I also like the tangibility of construction and seeing a completed project.

My most memorable project would have to be Westgate Church. It was my first project. Small and simple. I was new, so I still learned a lot (but not too much where it would be overwhelming).

In my free time, I enjoy video games, crafting, cooking, and needlessly researching places I may or may not ever go.

Kevin Corral

Assistant Land Surveyor

I have been with Carroll Engineering since 2016. During that time, I have participated in many different survey projects, from residential topographic and boundary surveys to school district campus improvements. I have worked on jobs all over the Bay Area, from San Francisco to Gilroy, and from Monterey to the Sacramento Valley. I take pride in the accuracy of every survey we produce.

Outside the office, I enjoy travelling, golfing and attending local sporting events. I also enjoy spending quality time with my wife and son.

Kimberly Murray, PE

Associate Engineer
BS Civil Engineering , Michigan State University

MS Civil and Environmental Engineering, Wayne State University

My previous experience involved road and bridge design and construction. I’ve been with Carroll Engineering since 2015, primarily working on school projects with a few other multi-family and community center projects.

Following a project through the design and construction process is rewarding in itself. There’s always something to learn throughout the entire process. Every individual project creates lessons and ideas of what can be passed on or improved upon into the next. There’s always room to grow.

Outside of work, I enjoy travelling, fitness and just being active. I love being outside, although I spend many hours inside of ice rinks and on the sideline of gyms and playing fields, watching my kids do what they love. I thoroughly love watching my kids compete at their individual passions. I’ve lived in Michigan, Alberta, Canada, New York, Nashville, Helsinki, Finland & Innsbruck, Austria. Skiing and hiking in the alps has probably been the highlight of my life.

Kimberly Stewart

Bookkeeper & Office Administrator
BS Fruit Science, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo

I started working as a bookkeeper to pay my way through college. I realized that I had a natural ability with numbers and problem solving, so after completing my degree in Fruit Science, I chose to continue working in the financial accounting field.

I joined the Carroll Engineering team in 2017 and only planned to work here for a short time because I want to sail around the world. The Partners at Carroll Engineering were gracious enough to allow me to set up systems that have made it possible to continue working for them remotely. The systems were first tested in 2018, when I sailed to Bahia Tortugas, Mexico and worked from a tiny internet café. Since then, I’ve worked from many cities in multiple countries, and I look forward to working in many more as I continue my journey around the world.

I love the ocean, traveling, sailing, fishing, food, whiskey, music, dancing, playing games and adventure!

Matthew Martus

Vice President/ Principal Engineer
BS Civil Engineering – Michigan State University

I first came to California as entry level engineer almost 20 years ago, to work for Carroll Engineering. Bryce Carroll taught me the ropes of engineering and client relationships, while grooming me to lead the company. Since becoming an owner, I strive to carry on his legacy. This includes focusing on collaboration, quality, integrity and always going the extra mile for the betterment of a project.

Our company has an extensive background in the design of educational facilities. I find school site work to be very rewarding. A successful project is about teamwork such as helping an architect master planning a school, working with the district on cost effective solutions, maintaining tight coordination with other consultants, performing constructability reviews with the contractor, and working on the nuts and bolts of the design with staff. There is always something new to learn and share.

Outside of work, I love adventure and exploring with my wife and two boys. When in Michigan, camping, boating, mountain biking and hiking are my favorite recreational activities. In other locations, mountains are preferred for snowboarding, rock climbing, or biking. California has set the bar high for beautiful challenging landscapes!

Milan KC

Assistant Engineer
BS Civil Engineering, Nepal Institute of Engineering

MS Civil Engineering, University of Toledo

I joined Carroll Engineering after completing grad school. I have experience in site grading, drainage, utility, ADA accessibility, erosion control plans and specifications.

I am a soccer fan and an avid reader of wide range of topics including history, philosophy and sports. I also like exploring new places and enjoying great foods.

Philip Wootton, PLS

Secretary/ Principal Land Surveyor

I began my Land Surveying career with Carroll Engineering in 1998 as a Surveyor’s Assistant. After two years, I left to pursue another opportunity in surveying. I worked my way up through the trade, and became a Licensed Land Surveyor in 2007. When I heard about a vacancy for a Licensed Surveyor position back here at Carroll Engineering in 2012, I eagerly accepted. Since then, I became a partner and am proud to own part of this company. Without bias, I have to say this is the best, most professional place I have ever worked.

Surveying is mathematics, and it is also art. Surveyors must paint a picture so that others may see what we see.

Outside of work, I enjoy listening to and writing music, reading and camping with friends and family.

Renee Mundwyler

CAD Operator

Since joining Carroll Engineering in 1995, I can say that I worked for Bryce Carroll in “the early days”. The work is always changing, and I continue growing in an understanding of engineering design which I find interesting.

One memorable project was Gilroy High School, since the ability to see the final construction result was very satisfying.

I like dogs, especially as walking companions, and continue to be involved with the children’s ministry at church. Also, during the past several years, extra time has been spent on extensive home improvement projects.

Robert Henry, PE, QSD, QSP

President/ Principal Engineer
BS Civil Engineering – California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo

I started worked for Carroll Engineering as an Assistant Engineer from 1997 to 2000. After spending time with another firm, I returned in 2009 as an Associate Engineer and was promoted to Vice President in 2014, and then President in 2015 when the ownership transition took place. My experience with civil engineering design and project management includes a variety of projects such as school site renovations, subdivisions, high density low-income housing, custom residential sites, hillside development, commercial sites, mixed use facilities, and public improvements. Additionally, having experience in residential construction, and heavy construction (tunneling project) gives me practical knowledge which I utilize in the design process for projects undertaken by our office.

As a Certified QSD and QSP I am responsible for assisting clients in meeting the requirements of the Regional Water Quality Control Board for stormwater management. This includes Low Impact Development design for stormwater management and also includes the production of Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans as part of obtaining permit coverage from the RWQCB.

In my free time, I enjoy riding off-road dirt bikes, adventure motorcycle riding, watching super-cross, cheering on the Sharks, attending live music concerts, and cooking amazing meals with my beautiful wife.
